If you read my last post, you might remember that my New Year's resolution is more about personal acceptance, but there's one thing I definitely cannot accept going into a new year with a new house...disorganization. So I teamed up with Midwest furniture retailer The RoomPlace to help get my home office/closet in shape.
As much as I would love
to furnish our home in custom pieces, that's not particularly doable on a
"we're-saving-for-a-wedding-and-honeymoon-and-future-babies" budget. But
we do have a long wishlist, which means we've been looking for some
more affordable pieces to add to our home.
Our house was built in 1922. It's old and charming and has lots of
small rooms. It's not a large home, but we're lucky enough to have 5
bedrooms to grow into (2 downstairs and 3 upstairs). That gives us the
flexibility to each have an office. And also because it was built in
1922...you guessed it...not a TON of closet space. So I picked the
brightest, lightest upstairs room for my office. And then I decided to
have it double as a closet.
That's when The RoomPlace came in! JR and I had visited a RoomPlace location about two years ago when he was looking for some things for his apartment (before we bit the bullet and moved in together). So I was familiar with the style and price-point of the items they carry, but I had always thought they were more in the business of "sets" -- for bedrooms, living rooms, or dining rooms. While that probably does constitute a chunk of its inventory, The RoomPlace also has some great, affordable accent pieces...perfect for organizing. I was super excited when they reached out for a collaboration.
I was immediately drawn to the Sayers Bookcase because of its neutral colors and different shelf shapes. It was exactly what I was looking for to display some of my bags and accessories. I have to admit, I was a tiny bit nervous about the shiny "chrome" finish of the metal, but it fits in beautifully with our hardwood floors and industrial hanging rack. I absolutely love the way my handbags, perfumes, and odds and ends look so put-together on the shelves. I had to assemble this one, but managed to do it myself in about 40 minutes. Not too bad! It's very sturdy and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a way to display pretty things in your home.
The Toven Coat Rack was also an easy selection because, well, you can never have enough hanging space. My only issue with this particular piece is that it was a little difficult to put together. The instructions weren't hard to follow, but I did have to use my entire body weight (as well as JR's) to try to slide the top part onto the base. Still not all the screws lined up so I had to leave a few out, but it's still very sturdy and serves its purpose nicely.
Finally, I had been looking for a little bench to set in front of the window or use when shoving my feet into those booties that are just a teeny bit hard to get over my heel. The Isabella Accent Ottoman is cute and comfy and the perfect size. (It also has a beautiful accent chair to match).
The RoomPlace carries a wide variety of styles, from super traditional to sleek and modern. Moving into a new house and having to furnish it can be daunting but the RoomPlace created an easy, affordable way to help fill our home with pieces that suit our tastes and make organizing simple. It really is a great location for stylish furniture and accessories, at affordable prices.
