Holiday Party Style

Happy Holidays everyone! I can't believe Christmas is 10 days away! JR and I finally found our perfect first home and moved in this past weekend. All of the craziness with the house made the first part of December FLY by, and now I feel like I'm rushing to get our Christmas decorations up so we can at least enjoy a short first Christmas season in our new home.

Ruby + Abby

I never, ever thought I would end up with a white, fluffy dog. When I first graduated from undergrad, I kept the Milwaukee Humane Society homepage book-marked and would check it daily. I almost went and picked up a little terrier-looking pup named, at least in my mind, Max.

Winter Brights

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I took a much-needed break from both work and blogging and spent the long holiday weekend with family. As much as I love my job, and I love keeping up with my blog, sometimes it's nice to completely step away...especially during the holiday season!

Elizabeth & James

This fall has been absolutely beautiful! Today, in the middle of November, I saw people sitting outside on the patios at Mass Ave restaurants. It definitely does not feel like Thanksgiving is next week. And as much as I do like the cooler temperatures, I'm definitely not complaining about this mild fall and hoping that it's foreshadowing an equally mild winter.

Plaid + Stripes

It's Tuesday. It's election day. JR and I are sitting here watching the news coverage. And I scroll through my phone and see so many opinions, and so much frustration, and I see the very people who are advocating against hate being downright...well, hateful.

It's so easy to get caught up in the madness of it all and forget about why this day gets so out of hand...because we are lucky enough to live in a country where we can voice those opinions and where all citizens of legal age are able to exercise the right to vote.

Friday Favorites: Denim

Friday Favorites: Jeans

I don't know about you guys, but I have a really hard time finding jeans. I have no issues with my body type (ok, maybe just a few tiny issues), but I will say that one frustrating thing is that my hips are a little out of proportion to my waist. I find that if I get a pair of jeans to fit through my thighs and hips, there's always a big gap in the back around the waist.

Laid Back

Do you have something in your closet that you aaaalmost didn't buy, but you did, and now you wear ALL the time? That's this sweatshirt for me. I literally saw it on the sale rack at J.Crew as I was walking to the register. They only had a medium, but it was cheap and looked super comfy, so I grabbed it thinking it would be good to wear around the house on cold mornings.

Cold Shoulder

Well, it has been about 5 months since we started the home search. We've had about 3 homes fall through, but we're still looking! You think "oh, house hunting...this will be fun! We'll go out on a few Saturday afternoons and find our perfect home." Not so much. We've probably seen about 50 homes and nothing seems to be right.

The New UGG Classic

This past weekend was perfectly sunny and chilly and perfectly fall. I woke up early on Saturday morning to let Ruby out, and I actually pulled out my new UGGs to walk her through the wet grass. There's nothing better than taking the dog outside wrapped in a cozy robe and UGG boots, and coming inside to a warm pot of coffee brewing.

7 Styles for Fall

currently coveting: fall

The temperatures have finally cooled enough to make it comfortable to wear jeans and sweaters. But it's still warm enough to wear flats. That makes this time of year just about perfect.

White Blouse

Well guys, this weekend is the weekend. We say goodbye to the first apartment we shared together (where JR proposed!) and we move out to the suburbs and in with JR's mom!

Fall Florals

I don't know if it's that tomorrow is a new season or the fact that we're getting ready to move, but I have been going through my closet and purging things I no longer wear. As someone who tends to develop an emotional attachment to clothes, this is somewhat of a new development. But I've moved out of my early twenties when I still coveted my "going-out tops"...I've moved out of my grad school phase where the uniform was tee-shirts and jeans...and I'm settling into my late (gasp) twenties.

The New UGG Classic

It's September 13th. That means in 9 days it will officially be fall. And no matter how many places I've visited this year, nowhere beats fall in the Midwest. I absolutely love the leaf changes and crisp, sunny mornings that late September and October bring. I love tailgates, jeans and boots, sweaters, scarves, and pumpkin spice lattes. When it comes to fall, I am #basic and proud. And whether you're with me on this one or against, I also love when it's time to pull out my cozy sweats and slouchy UGGs.

Hello, September

I said it on my Instagram post and I'll say it again, things have been crazy! I swear, I blinked and it was already the second week of September. But it feels like I have been saying that all year. In all seriousness, this has been the busiest year of my life. With work and travel...celebrating friends' babies and weddings and bachelorettes and birthdays...wedding planning of our own...and trying to find a house. But it has also been one of the most rewarding, fun, exciting years of my life.

Feeling Like Fall

JR turned the big 3-0 on Monday and we spent the weekend in New York celebrating. We had such a great time! But when we got off the plane on Monday night in Indiana, there was definitely a hint of fall in the air. It was a perfect night, 75 and cool, sunny...but it was one of those nights that leads you to believe that summer is winding down.

Blue Lace

Summer is starting to come to a close, and I'm finally getting excited about booties and jeans and sweaters. But I am very sad to put this little blue dress away until next year. I loved wearing this dress to a recent wedding, and I'm not above re-wearing season after season, so rest assured you will see this dress again next year!

Bright Tassel Necklace

I cannot believe it's August! I feel like I say that every month, but it's crazy to be that we're already almost into fall. I don't know if it's because we've been so busy this year or because this year has been so fun, but it is flying by.

Jacksons in Jackson

A few weeks ago, we headed out West for the wedding of two of our dear friends, Kalen and Boyd. JR and I had never traveled to Wyoming before, so we decided to tack a few days on to the beginning of the trip to get out and enjoy the great outdoors!

Red Bandana

So it has only been 3 weeks since we got engaged (woo!) but we have already booked a date and venue, and I found my dress! For as much as I love planning and organizing, I really do not like wedding planning (at least, not the first 3 weeks of it). I'm just so excited for the actual day and the ceremony, that all of the other details and decisions seem a little...daunting.

Easy Summer Dresses

It has been hot and humid in Indiana lately! And when I say humid, I don't mean just a little extra hair frizz. I mean the air feels like you should be swimming through it, not walking through it. I love the summer months, but sometimes staying cool isn't the easiest (or chicest).

Best Pants Ever

I don't know if there's a girl out there who can't appreciate a good maxi skirt or dress. I sure can. So imagine my excitement when I discovered maxi skirt/dress 2.0...the maxi pant. At least that's how I think of them. Ok, ok, so maybe it's repetitive to call pants "maxi" but these airy, wide-leg H&M pants give the exact same feel as a maxi skirt. And I'm obsessed.

We are engaged!

On July 4, JR proposed! We are over the moon, and having so much fun celebrating with family and friends. Want to know how he did it?!

Friday Favorites: Summer Styles

It's. The. Weekend. I know you're sick of hearing how busy things have been lately (I'm sick of talking about it), but it's the truth! The summer has been the busiest summer EVER. Between work commitments, travel, and looking for a house (#adulting), I haven't had much time for shopping, or blogging.

You're buggin me

I really enjoy blogging, but I'm not fortunate enough to make a living out of it. Luckily for me, I also really enjoy my job that pays the bills. BUT. That means that the job that pays the bills typically takes priority over blogging...and items that have since sold out get posted late. As is the case with this little number.

Summer Dresses

Do you ever go through a style phase? Like, remember when you went through the Limited Too phase? I'll bet anyone over the age of 25 can relate to that one. Anyway, right now I'm in a serious Madewell phase. I've been a HUGE fan of Madewell skinny skinny jeans since I bought a pair in Charleston about a year and a half ago. Since then, I've discovered a newfound obsession with Madewell shoes, Madewell bags, and most recently, Madewell dresses.

Memorial Day in Indy

May is a special month in Indiana, and I can't believe Memorial Day weekend is next week! I always think back to the start of summer break back in school, and vividly remember lawns decked out with black and white checkered flags. The Indy 500 brings such a cool vibe to the city -- people are out and about, heading down to the track, participating in all the race festivities. JR and I finished our first mini marathon a few weekends ago, we'll watch the 500 Festival parade travel past our apartment downtown, and we will be attending the 100th running of the Indy 500 on Sunday the29th!

cold shoulder

Happy Wednesday! Can you believe it's already mid-May? I feel like we were just celebrating New Years! I know it sounds a bit cliche, but life really does move quickly. And lately, I've had a little bit of trouble slowing down and enjoying the days as they come! I find myself worrying about the next trip, the next meeting, the next meal (I know some of you feel me on that one). What do you guys do to stay present? I'd love to hear your tips!

Easy Breezy

Happy Friday everyone! This past weekend, Caroline and I had a little shoot scheduled. I was so excited to get out and about with her, because I feel like I'm due for some new looks and new posts. So when Caroline (poor thing) got a flat tire on her way home from Cincinnati on Sunday evening, I managed to whine enough until boyfriend agreed to go outside with me and snap a few pictures.

Home Inspiration

Home Inspiration

I recently went out to California to visit my longtime friend, Taylor, and I absolutely fell in love with the style of her home. I've always considered my home style a little more traditional, but honestly, I think it's because my mom's home style is more traditional. As I start picking out furniture, decor, and textiles on my own, I've discovered I like things little more modern and a little more...eclectic? It's hard for me to label my personal style because it changes! I like what I like and I don't like what I don't like. Simple as that! Right?

Cali Vacay featuring Tobi

This past weekend, I visited California for the very first time. I've done a fair amount of traveling in my 28 years, but for some reason, I had never managed to make it out West. But now, after having visited, I can't believe I made it that long without going! I love that California is made up of beautiful blue skies, tall palm trees, and sunny warm temperatures. I love that there were so many different interesting people to watch. I love that I got to spend 4 full days with one of my childhood best friends, Taylor.

And I also love that the night before my trip, while packing and texting Taylor about what to bring, she stated "Cali is so great because you can wear literally whatever you want and people think it's cool." In my head, I was like "well, that's great Tay, but that doesn't help me narrow down the 4 piles of clothes I currently have on the floor." So naturally...I packed everything. But I ended up spending most of the time in breezy dresses and Coachella-inspired ripped jean shorts. And even though we weren't out in the dessert with the other cool kids, I still felt very LA in all of the pieces that I picked out from one of my favorite online retailers, Tobi.

Friday Favorites: Stripes

Everyone got soooo excited when the weather warmed up in March. Just wait, I said, we'll have snow again. Well, I must have jinxed us because just after I went out and picked up some new spring pieces, there was snow on the ground. However, I've been very lucky (and busy!) traveling to some warm spots in the midst of the chiller temps. Last weekend, I was in Florida for an advocacy event and gala for work. This weekend, no work is in sight as I head out to California for the FIRST time. I'm finally visiting my best friend, Taylor, who has been out there since post-undergrad.
Now that the weather is warming up again, and I'm headed to a sunny location, I wanted to share some of the things that are new to my closet, or on my wish list. I realized that a lot of what I'm coveting lately is a little more simple and classic. I picked up a few striped shirts at J.Crew a few weeks back, and I love how you can give them an updated look with fun shorts or ripped denim (see a few pinterest favorites below, courtesy of Un-fancy and Sincerely Jules - among others).

Easy Layers

As much as I love getting a little glammed up (especially for blog posts), on a "regular" day, you'll typically find me in jeans, flats, and a flowy scarf. This is one of my new staple outfits, and this scarf has been on repeat pretty much since I bought it. It's cozy enough to add a little warmth, but airy enough for the increasing temperatures.

OTK

Wow, things have been crazy lately. Between work, traveling for birthdays and weddings, and trying to keep up with laundry (I swear the pile never gets smaller), I haven't had much time to do anything...except complain. The other night, JR stopped me and said "every time one of us complains, we're going to put $5 in a jar and when the jar gets full we're going to donate to people who have actual worries." I laughed him off until the next thing out of my mouth was another complaint.

Black on Black

It it finally getting warm enough for open toes! Last night, boyfriend and I walked to Mass Ave for a little wine and dinner on one of the patios. It was so nice to see the sun past 6:00 and to feel a little warmth. It made us both excited for summer, and we spent most of dinner talking about all the things we want to do when the weather takes a turn for the better, for good.

Friday Favorites: Spring Styles

tee. gee. eye. eff.

Happy Friday everyone! Man, February was a busy month. What a way to kick off 2016! I don't know if I'm excited or anxious to say things don't appear to be slowing down in March. Lots of travel (for business and pleasure), projects at work, and trying to set aside a little time for blogging and spending time with boyfriend (sometimes I feel like we see each other in passing, quickly throughout the day rather than setting aside quality time together). But honestly, March is bringing all good things. I'm so grateful to be able to travel and work and live with my besties (Ruby and JR).

Lace Up

I love cozying up in big sweaters and chunky knits. Every fall and winter, I look forward to throwing on a pair of jeans, boots, and an oversized top. So when I spotted this quilted Forever 21 number on one of my favorite bloggers, I got online and had it shipped to my door. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it online to link below, but it went away for a bit when I was looking for it at first, and it magically came back...so there's hope! But if not, I've linked to a few other lace-up options below. I love the lace-up detail that I'm seeing everywhere right now -- although this little guy is as soft as a sweatshirt, I don't feel like I'm wearing one. But I do have to say it is a liiiitle boxier/chunkier than I anticipated. I was worried it would make me look like a big marshmallow in pics...I may look like a mini-marshmallow, but for how comfy this thing is, I'll take it!

Happy Birthday, S&S!

Hi, readers! Today is a very special day because it marks two full years of my little blog. And I have to start by saying thank you. When I first started this little venture, I was so worried that not even my mom would care to read or follow along (I didn't think she would get the whole "blog" thing). But here we are, with you reading this post, and my mom as my biggest fan.

#tbt: 90's style

Do you remember when life was all about jelly sandals and khaki overalls? When the cause of your most dramatic meltdown was when the new American Girl Doll catalog arrived? When TGIF was all about tween TV shows and not just a welcome break from the 40 (sometimes 50, 60) hour work week? I do. It was circa 1997.

Lady in Red-Orange

Here in Indiana, we have had a pretty mild winter so far! Usually by early January, we've had a few feet of snow and battled sub-zero temps. But this year, I've only seen flurries and a few days in the low thirties...until now. The good news is, I'm getting more use out of my favorite J.Crew coat and new L.L. Bean duck boots. The bad news? It's miserable letting Ruby out at 6am.

New Year, Lighter Life

I am all about a new year...a new beginning, a fresh start. Lord knows there have been times in my life when I've really needed a clean slate. Perhaps that's why I love January 1st so much. Now, I'm not being naive...at the end of New Year's Day, you're still the same person with the same habits. But there's something very powerful and invigorating about a symbol of starting clean.  Day one of the next 365. I very much believe in putting out into the universe what you hope to get back, and what better time to set a positive tone than on day one.

This past year has been a great one -- full of change and challenges and fun and love. So you may think that January 1st doesn't mean as much when you don't have as much to change. But I think that's where you're wrong. January 1st became all the more important to me this year because I wanted to reflect on my appreciation and gratitude for the past 12 months and really think about setting the tone for the next 12. And that's why this post is coming a few days late. My resolution for 2016 is to live lighter: in my thoughts, my weight, my posessions....so many ways to lighten the burdens (both small and large) of life. And part of that is being light on myself -- not being too self-critical when I don't post on time or can't find the right words.

Any day is a good day to change your mindset. Any day is a good day to send out into the world what you hope to get back. Any day is a good day to be kinder to yourself and to others. Whether it be April 19th or January 1st, I wish you a life full of light. January 1st was my day to start living lighter...what will yours be?
