Plaid on Plaid on Stripes

There are few things about Charleston that I like more than walking around downtown on a pretty day. Two weekends ago, my mom and aunt were in town visiting and we had a beautiful Sunday afternoon shopping along King Street and walking along the Battery.  When we weren't in the sun, it was a bit chilly, so I grabbed a coffee and threw on one of my plaid blanket scarves for a little more warmth. But once we got in that Carolina sun, the scarf went in the bag and I found myself wishing I had ordered an iced latte.

While it has been a bit unsettling at times to pick up my entire life and move to a new city, it's days like Sunday that make me appreciate the opportunity to live in such a beautiful and charming place. And it's spending time with my family that reminds me that I have such an amazing support system and a group of people that will forever be there for me.

Sometimes it takes a jarring event to change your perspective, but once that flip switches - if you're lucky - you'll realize that life is too devastatingly beautiful to not appreciate at least a tiny bit of every day.

Evening Walk

My sweet pup Ruby Louise just turned 6 months old. She came home with me in June and she has brought a smile to my face every day since then. Never underestimate the power of puppy snuggles when bad days creep up. Her spunky personality and complete adoration have made the transition to a new home much easier.

Because I work full days and Ru spends a lot of time alone, I love getting her out and about on the weekends. She absolutely loves water and the beach, but Sunday evening we decided to take a little stroll around Mt. Pleasant just as the sun was setting. She's definitely not the most patient model, but she managed to sit still for a pretty cute millisecond just as the camera snapped. Puppies are a lot of work, but I would go through 100 more rounds of puppy teething and potty training just to spend evenings like this with my little girl.

Hello, October

Well, folks. We have made it to October. It has been a busy two weeks for me filled with work training (note the slight lack of blogging), and I realized that this year is just flying by. I am so excited to welcome the holiday season and am getting excited to begin 2015 with a fresh perspective. I saw a little picture in my yoga class the other day that said something along the lines of "every day can change your life." This one stuck with me - you never know what could happen in the blink of an eye, so make it part of your daily routine to wake up with a thankful heart. It's not always easy - especially when it's raining, the alarm is buzzing, and the dog is anxious to go out (pretty much every morning this week for me!). But just remember that every day, every moment, has the potential to change your life.

On a lighter note, we had a bit of a rainy chill roll through the south this past week. I took it as an  opportunity to play around with some heavier fall looks. This is one of my faves: jeans, booties, and a chunky scarf. While the scarf is still a little heavy for daytime in South Carolina, the nights cool off to a perfect 70-degrees and it's great to have some extra layers. Everyone tells me I won't want to leave Charleston at the end of my year-long rotation, but it just doesn't feel like October when I look out my window and see palm trees (not that I'm complaining). I'm so grateful for the opportunity to live in one of my very favorite cities, but nothing beats fall in the Midwest. Don't you agree?
