Falling into September

It is still nice and balmy in South Carolina, but 2-weeks of work training brought me back to the slightly chilly weather in Indianapolis. I love living by the beach, but there's nothing better than fall in the Midwest. Something about the season, even more so than any other, makes me feel happy and hopeful. True, summers are filled with warm nights and a feeling of limitless possibility. But the crisp, clean feeling of the fall air brings me back to reality and signals fresh beginnings. After starting a new job and moving to a new city, that is a very calming feeling. Life throws you curve balls -- no matter how much you plan or how much you pray or how much you practice. And sometimes, when it seems to spiral too far out of the very loose grasp you try to maintain on it, a fresh beginning is just what you need.

I packed this little outfit for casual nights after work. Gap has some amazing blazers right now, which is perfect, because what screams fall more than blazers and jeans? I was still playing around with this look while in South Carolina, so I paired it with my favorite Old Navy flats. But Indy calls for boots and a little scarf and I couldn't be happier.

Here's to hoping that the early fall chills bring you the same feeling of freshness and optimism. It really is a peaceful time of year. Take time to stop and notice the quiet beauty all around you.

Black & White

It is HOT in South Carolina. Hot and humid. I have loved getting plenty of use out of all my shorts, skirts, and dresses, but one thing that's not getting much use: my hair straightener (there's no point). I also haven't touched a pair of pants in two weeks! This little skirt and top combo is perfect for dinner and drinks (see a slightly dressed up version in my previous post), and the flat sandals are crucial for navigating the treacherous cobblestone streets in downtown Charleston. This skirt got a lot of love last fall, and I don't see why this season will be any different.

Pretty in Patchwork

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday. I spent the weekend getting settled in Charleston, SC and prepared myself for my first day of work. I am so excited to be spending a year in this lovely city! Shopping is great, food is great, and the people are great. Stay tuned for a post with all of my favorite spots (so far). I definitely recommend heading south for a little palmetto paradise!

My mom and I hit King Street to check out some of the Labor Day sales on Friday. And while this little number happened to be full price, it was too cute to pass up. I tried it on with sandals, booties, and cowgirl boots - it all worked. It's such an easy, versatile dress and I love the detail in the different fabrics and trims. It was a little toasty wearing it in the 90+ degree heat (notice the hair that started off perfectly waved and very quickly frizz-ified in the humidity) but I know I will be wearing it all fall when the temp drops a bit. Anthro has so many fun dresses right now, I may just have to head back downtown for a little "I-have-to-work-full-time-again-so-I-deserve-a-treat" shopping. Ya dig?
