Casual Friday

I'm loving all of the head-to-toe denim again this season, and thought I would share one of my favorite takes on the good ol' Canadian tuxedo. I got these Rachel Zoe for 7 for All Mankind jeans a few years ago off Piperlime (my friend Nicole and I were OBSESSED). I had to wait almost a month for them to show up at my door but they were WELL worth the wait. I love a good skinny jean for spring, but I still can't seem to retire these mega flares. Paired with a chambray shirt from Gap and my Tory Burch bag, I have a great casual outfit for hanging out on the weekend. Seven great pairs of jeans: 7 for All Mankind, Gap, Citizens of Humanity, AG, J Brand, Forever 21, Lucky Brand

Sun&Stripes

Praise the Gods of sundresses and flip flops - we FINALLY got a sign of spring this weekend. Saturday was a beautiful day, and I spent it in my favorite J.Crew jacket and Dolce Vita flats. Unfortunately, I jumped on the warm weather a little too soon -- the next morning I awoke to snow flurries. That's life in the Midwest for ya. Even though we deal with sun one minute and snow the next, there are at least seven things I love about life in Indiana: season changes (even if they are schizo), affordable living, small towns, lake weekends, Bloomington, being near family, and the Indy 500 (don't judge until you've been).

Friday Favorites: May Designs

Among the many wonderful qualities I have inherited from my mother is a love for all things pink+navy and a love for pretty paper products. So imagine my delight when I discovered May Designs - a website that allows you to customize and monogram beautiful notebooks, planners, and note cards. They even have special planners/diaries for all the future moms and brides in your life. Check it out here, you'll become instantly obsessed. Seven of my favorite background choices include: chevron mint, ikat teal, doodle pink, rose navy, damask pink orange & yellow, ikat leaf navy (shown), and Kappa Kappa Gamma morrocan.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I only recently rung in 2014. So it's fitting that I just ordered and received my custom May Books planner about a week ago. And this sunny Friday morning before finals week has been perfect for catching up on some Glamour and organizing the next few busy weeks. And with that, I think I will get back to my coffee...Happy weekend S&S readers!

Lovely (faux) Leather

Just a quick little post for this dreary Monday. I love wearing skirts and dresses because they usually take less effort than pulling together an entire outfit. This faux leather skirt has been a staple in my wardrobe rotation this winter, and I thought it had better get one last use before it warms up to a whopping 60 degrees later this week (fingers crossed). I paired it with my favorite Rebecca Taylor sweater - obsessed with the zipper detail on the side. I have a growing collection of Rebecca Taylor pieces - it's super hard for me to find something in her collections that I don't like. Seven things I particularly LOVE about Rebecca Taylor: tweed jackets and shift dresses, girly florals, animal prints, leather detail, super soft sweaters, printed blouses, embellished necklines. Check out Rebecca's favorites here.

Happy Hearts Day

2013 was a rough year. I am not quite sure I have ever had to work so hard to get up and try to enjoy every day. So many days were spent focusing on what was missing, and not nearly enough time was spent appreciating what I currently have. One of those bad days was on New Year's Eve - I didn't feel much like celebrating. So. I am officially welcoming 2014 a month and a half late, on February 14th. And I couldn't think of a more perfect day.

I know some people think Valentine's Day is cheesy and either fake or depressing (depending which side of the fence you're on), but I have always loved it. A whole day to spend celebrating the people you love...and showing that love with flowers, dinner, a sweet note, or simply those three pretty words. I have officially decided that love is going to be my theme for 2014 - appreciating and remembering the love from the past, being open to love in the future, and enjoying the love that is currently present all around me. I wish the same for all of you. Cheers to 2014, and to appreciating the love in every single day.

Black on Black on Grey

As excited as I am to wear pastels this spring (loving all the new "dusty pink" accessories), I still can't resist head-to-toe black. What's more chic than that? I made black on black little more casual this week, throwing on a sweater and chunky scarf with my favorite scuba leggings from Express. A new bag and wedge sneakers gave it a more relaxed feel. I still can't wait for spring, but until then, here are seven accessories on my wish list (all in classic black): BCBG Harlow clutch, UO thigh-high socks, Marc by Marc Jacobs trapeze necklace, classic Ray Ban wayfarers, American Apparel pleather hair bow, Butter London "Gobsmacked", Forever 21 lace head wrap

Wearing // black sweater: BCBG (old) // black infinity scarf: Collection 18 (old, similar here) // scuba leggings: Express // wedges: Saks GRAY // bag: Steve Madden (available at Macy's - I got mine for half the price on Gilt a few weeks ago!) // rings: David Yurman // sunglasses: Ray Ban

Winter Wedges

It's still FREEZING in Bloomington, but this weekend we were lucky enough to get a few days with some sun. While I am definitely ready for 70+ weather, winter isn't so bad with a little sunshine. I threw on my favorite scarf for a little extra warmth, some super high winter wedges, and ended up with a great casual outfit that could easily go from winter to spring. Seven signs of spring in Bloomington: red tulips all over campus, happy hours on the Kilroy's patio, Little 500, walking to class, frat laps (am I too old for those?), maxi dresses, and did I mention Little 5?

Wearing // blazer: Theory (no longer available but LOVE this one) // black cami: lulus.com (old) // jeans: Joe's // scarf: H&M (old - but I find the best scarves there!) // wedges: Madden Girl (cheap and old, similar here) // sunglasses: Gucci // clutch: Forever 21 (not available online, but found it for $8 a few weeks ago in store) // pave link bracelet: J. Crew (other bracelet also J.Crew, not available online) // watch: Michael Kors // midi rings: Urban Outfitters // nails: OPI "Give me Moor" // lips: NARS velvet matte lip pencil in "Damned"

Valentine's Day Steals

Valentine's Day Steals

Okay, so now that Valentine's Day is less than a week away, I'm totally getting into the lovey spirit. When I still lived at home, I remember coming downstairs for breakfast and seeing a little Valentine's Day surprise from my mama sitting on the counter. Nothing big - usually a lip gloss or nail polish, but it always made me smile. Here are a few ideas for inexpensive "little somethings" for all the sisters, besties, aunts, or mamas in your life.

Seven websites with lots of little odds and ends that make great gifts: Mark & Graham, Anthropologie Valentine's Day Shop, One King's Lane, May Designs, Stella and Dot, C. Wonder Valentine's Day Shop, Paper Source

Seven&Stitch&Skulls

With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, I suppose I should be decked out in red, pink, and hearts. But this week, I found myself wearing black and skulls (with pops of red!). Valentine's Day has always been a favorite holiday of mine, and regardless of what is going on in my personal life, there are still at least seven things I LOVE about February 14th: homemade Valentine's Day cards, SweetTart hearts, an excuse to wear pink and red from head to toe, chocolate covered strawberries, bouquets of flowers, rom coms on TV all day long, and finally...celebrating the love and respect you have for significant others, family, and friends. Let's try to remember to celebrate these things all year, no?

Wearing // denim vest: Gap (no longer available, similar here from J. Crew) // scarf: Alexander McQueen // black shirt: White House Black Market (long sleeve not available online, but these tees are GREAT. I have the long and short sleeve in multiple colors) // black jeans: J. Crew // booties: Target (black no longer available) // bag: Rebecca Minkoff (leather quilted Moto mini no longer available, but here's a great version for spring, available at Bloomingdales) // jewelry: David Yurman, Michele // lips: NARS satin lip pencil in "Majella"// nails: OPI "You Don't Know Jacques"

Sweater Season

As much as I love dresses and skirts, there's nothing better than a great pair of jeans and a cute sweater. This long sweater from Urban is super comfy and I'm totes into the lace detail. Love a basic sweater? Look for one with any of these seven details to add little extra glam: lace, sparkles, faux fur, studs, spikes, zippers, buttons.

Tunic Love

Lately it has been hard to pry myself out of boots and leggings, but cozy corduroy skinnies and a flowy tunic helped me feel a little more stylish this weekend. Added some pumps and my favorite YSL clutch to kick it up a notch. My favorite thing about designer accessories is that you can slowly collect some reasonably-priced pieces that will last a lifetime. A little YSL and Hermes can dress up Gap cords any day. Seven of my favorite brands for accessories investments: Hermes, YSL, David Yurman, Alexander McQueen, DVF, Michele, Burberry.

Wearing// tunic: Anthropologie // cord skinnies: Gap (wine-colored from a few seasons back) // pumps: Ann Taylor (old) similar here // clutch: YSL, similar here (small, black patent no longer available - I definitely did not spend this much on mine!) // jewelry: David Yurman (ring 1 , ring 2, cable bracelet, beaded bracelet), Michele Deco watch, Hermes enamel bracelet // nails: OPI "You Don't Know Jacques"
